Yardbirds March 2010 – from the great white north to snowy Califorinia

… Via death Valley.

The March Canada/US tour flew by in a flurry… But alas, no flurries of snow. Although, perhaps luckily, as our Canadian tour manager Brian Mann said Winnipeg (or Winter-peg) often has a huge dumping of snow around this time of the year with face-peeling minus 35 deg C temperatures).

Thunder Bay Community Auditorium – beautiful modern auditorium with great acoustics… Just cautiously easing our way in, I felt.

Winnipeg McPhillips Street Station – great super-pro crew, lots of banter. I managed to forget most of my cues… Didn’t quite feel “on it”

We found a great coffee shop on Albert street in the Exchange District (run-down chi,c sort of like the East End) called The Fyxx, and avoided the tempation th walk across the frozen “creek” as Brian called it – looked like a bloody big river to me. He assures us you can walk/skate/drive across this thing.

The "creek", Winnipeg

Edmonton Century Casino – The super friendly staff made sure we kept them entertained with our drinking skills.

Late to bed for a Heinously early 5am start, only to get held up by US customs for long enough to delay out flight by one hour.

The WestJet Crew were superb as usual, and we arrived in good time.

Las Vegas The Cannery Casino – Another great venue with top-notch crew and superb sound. The huge Midas monitor console used to belong the The Who.

Firing on all cylinders, pefect gig. Capacity crowd was in rowdy form… Some had travelled from Canada (slightly hung-over I was informed!), the UK, as well as from across California and Nevada… Pizza and Red wine for afters – don’t knock it til you’ve tried it.

Alas, another early start the following morning for our 8 hour road trip to Lake Tahoe elevation 6000 feet up in Sierra Nevada, on the Cali-Nevada border… At The wheel US tour manager Joe Stella and web master Russ Garrett.

Obeying the authoratitive voice of the sat-nav, we found ourselves on a long detour off Route 95, through the most stunning mountainous countryside via the high desert plateau of Deep Springs in California, rejoining the 395 at Deep Springs – still 3 hours to go. It was worth every extra minute.

Lake Tahoe Harrah’s Casino – Again, great Crew… We were spoilt by the hospitality, and the crowd were in a rockin’ mood, some from as far afield as Chicago, Louisiana, Colorado… And Canada.
