Played a rather chaotic gig last Wednesday at the Island… Managed to forget my new song!

Anyway the crowd were digging my slightly dark version of “Ticket to ride”.

Eariler Ken Gibson managed to coax some good performances out if me in a recording session for The Island Project.

This Sunday I’ll be playing at the Stage Door near The Old Vic – a quality open mic night.

Andy Mitchell on Myspace – Music I’m listening to

Just discovered this wonderful artist called Sarah Siskind.

I stumbled upon her in the usual haphazard myspace way – Her profile is in guitar builder Alister Atkin’s top friends, so I clicked on her profile and gave her a listen.

Just so happens she has just released a new album, and I downloaded it from her site ( I was lucky to get it on a special price limited offer deal).

It is a superb album – Country/Nashville flavour but very earthy and bluesy with some great guitar tones courtesy of Sarah and her guitarist.

Her voice has mucho gravitas, very reminiscent of later Joni Mitchell, and the music paints a solemn landscape of dusty roads and wide open skies… this is a deep album… Highly recommended.

Andy Mitchell singer/songwriter – Gig review London – Cobden Club

Andy Mitchell live review, Friday 6th January 2009

My second gig at The Cobden Club this week… This time hosted by Wade Bayliss, featuring “The Island All Stars” – the regulars who play at The Island every Wednesday, many a talented one among them, including the bluesy sexiness of Annie Bea and the amazing Hayley Tucker– I’m sure they are going to be a huge stars one day soon.

Great night, excellent sound, brilliant crowd… I managed to do a half-decent recording with my trusty Zoom H2 digital recorder which I love to bits, so I’ll post a couple of tunes shortly.

Andy Mitchell – acoustic gig The Cobden Club London

Quick gig report:

Been to the Cobden Club several times as a punter, bit this was my first gig there.

Such an amazing setting with the big old-fashioned stage, framed by a carved gold-painted “picture frame”.

The visual effect makes the artist onstage looks as if he/she is placed inside a painting.

The headliners were great – a band called Tallulah Randell

Tallulah is the frontperson of the band and has a charismatic stage prescence, and she looks great too.

Her music has an atmospheric/cinematic quality, somewhere between P J Harvey and Jeff Buckely.

The band really play the dynamics beautifully… And Tallulah is cool because she plays a Guild S-100 🙂
